About:

American country music legend, Kris Kristofferson will be coming to New Zealand for a seven-centre national tour in April and May 2014 on the back of the release of his album Feeling Mortal.

Kristofferson will tour New Zealand performing in Auckland, Napier, Palmerston North, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin and Invercargill.

“I am very much looking forward to heading down to New Zealand to play to all my fans and taking in the beauty of the country. To be able to play songs from my new album to my Kiwi fans is a great privilege, along with all of my classics of course!”

Fans can look forward to Kristofferson performing in an intimate mode with Kristofferson on guitar playing the hits we all know and love including Me and Bobby McGee, Help Me Make it Through the Night, Sunday Morning Coming Down and For the Good Times. The intimacy of the shows will allow audiences to not only be captivated by Kristofferson’s voice but also an opportunity to hear first hand the stories of his life both on and off the road.

It is the honest and frank nature of Kristofferson’s lyrics with a focus on layering, nuance, empathy and emotional truth that hit home with audiences worldwide. It is this ability to hit a common nerve that is the reason for Kristofferson’s enduring popularity.

“I always try to be as honest as I can in the songwriting, and what I’m finding to my pleasant surprise at this age, is that the words are more inclined to laughter than tears – I hope I’ll feel this creative and this grateful until they throw dirt over me!” says Kristofferson.

Feeling Mortal, Kristofferson’s 28th album, was recorded in just three days with producer Don Was by his side to bolster the tracks with stellar instrumental work from guitarist Mark Goldenberg, pedal steel master Greg Leisz, keyboardist Matt Rollins, violinist and vocalist Sara Watkins, bassist Sean Hurley and drummer Aaron Sterling. What emerged was a piece of work that is one of Kris’ finest albums to date.

Country Music Hall of Famer and 76-year-old Kristofferson is touted as one of the most successful and versatile talents to come out of America. He’s done it all; a boxer, a Rhodes scholar, a college football player, an established actor, a military officer, a helicopter pilot, a Grammy-winner and above all an acclaimed singer-songwriter who has enhanced the scope of country music throughout his career.

Kris Kristofferson begins his New Zealand tour in Auckland performing at The Civic on Wednesday 30 April, before heading to Invercargill for a concert on Thursday 1 May, and making his way up the country with concerts in Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington, Palmerston North and Napier.
